El secretario primero de la Mesa del Congreso de los Diputados y parlamentario de Sumar por los Comuns, Gerardo Pisarello, hizo ayer una sentida defensa de la sanidad pública. Su esposa, Vanesa Valiño, quien fue directora del Observatorio Desc y jefa de gabinete de la concejalía de Vivienda con Ada Colau de alcaldesa, falleció la semana pasada, a 52 años, a causa de un cáncer.
Durante una breve comparecencia en el Congreso de Diputados, Pisarello afirmó que, “pese al dolor profundo que me produce la pérdida de mi mujer, no quería dejar pasar la ocasión para agradecer como ciudadano al sistema público de salud que la cuidó y le prolongó la vida de la mejor manera posible durante nueve meses”. El diputado recordó que “debido al cáncer más de 115.000 personas mueren al año en toda España” y subrayó que, “sin los recursos destinados a la investigación científica y a una sanidad pública y universal, esta cifra sería aún mayor “.
Pisarello agradeció a los médicos, personal de enfermería, limpieza, auxiliares y camilleros del Hospital de Sant Pau su labor en el cuidado de las personas con cáncer. Quienes, dijo, “a menudo sin las condiciones salariales y laborales que merecen, se dedican a los cuidados paliativos; las cuales, en su mayoría, son mujeres y muchas de origen migrante”.
“Nadie nos preguntó cómo nacer, pero hoy podemos decidir, dentro de un margen, cómo morir y cómo hacerlo con dignidad. Ésta – afirmó Pisarelo – fue la decisión innegociable de mi mujer, amparada por la lucha de muchos y muchas”. Y concluyó: “ni la polarización ni la discrepancia en otros muchos temas debería impedirnos un compromiso común en defensa de más recursos para la investigación y para el sistema público de salud”.
