“No hi ha dret a la Salut sense dret a l’habitatge”. Bajo este lema, el colectivo de jóvenes profesionales sanitarios de La Capçalera Barcelona se unirá mañana a la manifestación en defensa de la vivienda y en contra del precio de los alquileres convocada en Barcelona por el Sindicat de Llogateres.
Jóvenes residentes y adjuntos de la atención primaria han sumado fuerzas con otros colectivos del sector –como FoCAP y Marea Blanca– y, bajo el nombre de Sanitarias por el derecho a la Vivienda caminarán juntos por las calles de la capital catalana para reclamar el acceso a una vivienda digna y para poner de manifiesto cómo la actual crisis de la vivienda condiciona la salud de la población.
Marcelo Covelo, médico de familia y miembro de La Capçalera Barcelona, explica que en los últimos diez años ha podido comprobar, no sólo a través de las noticias sino también en la consulta, cómo la crisis de la vivienda condiciona la salud: “Cada vez viene más gente diciendo que no llega a fin de mes, que no puede pagar el alquiler, que se encuentra en riesgo de desahucio… y podemos certificar el impacto que toda esa inseguridad residencial tiene sobre la salud”. Esta problemática implica, para las personas que la sufren, un 30% más de riesgo de sufrir ansiedad o depresión, un peor control de las patologías crónicas, 10 años menos de esperanza de vida -si se trata de personas sin hogar, que viven en la calle– y cuatriplica las tasas de suicidio, entre otras consecuencias.
Ante esta situación, Covelo considera que “como sanitarias tenemos la responsabilidad de posicionarnos a nivel político, porque fuera de la consulta tenemos responsabilidades como ciudadanas y como sanitarias”. A raíz de una asamblea realizada a mediados de noviembre delante la Facultad de Medicina del Hospital Clínic, La Capçalera Barcelona ha dinamizado un espacio sanitario dentro de la movilización bajo el nombre de Sanitarias por el derecho a la vivienda, y firman un manifiesto –al que se han adherido numerosas entidades y asociaciones del sector– en el que resaltan que “el acceso a una vivienda digna, más allá de ser un derecho fundamental, es uno de los factores que más impacta en la salud de la población. Y es que la falta de una vivienda digna y estable impide el normal desarrollo de la vida personal y colectiva, ya que sobre el hogar se construye la base para el bienestar social, físico y psicológico de las personas. Es conocido el papel de la vivienda como determinante clave para la salud. Además del impacto en la salud mental que genera la inseguridad residencial y el riesgo de desahucio, es necesario tener claro que la vivienda incluye tanto el espacio físico del hogar como el entorno comunitario del barrio. Estos factores condicionan los hábitos de vida, el acceso a recursos esenciales y la capacidad de gestionar patologías crónicas”.
En este mismo sentido, Marcelo Covelo apunta que “no podemos mantenernos indiferentes ante una crisis de la vivienda como la que estamos viviendo, porque esto condicionará mucho la salud de nuestros pacientes y de la gente con la que trabajamos”. La respuesta sanitaria se podrá escuchar mañana a partir de las 17 horas en la Plaza Universidad para defender el derecho a la vivienda, uno de los determinantes sociales más fundamentales, ya que –concluye el manifiesto– “creemos que luchar por la vivienda también es luchar por la salud”.
